As a queer parent and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, Bellomo’s art not only beautifies but also amplifies voices throughout Chicago. With a Masters in Education in Creative Arts in Learning from Lesley University, she has carved out a unique space as a self-taught, full-time artist with an unwavering commitment to creating work while centering collaboration and queerness.
In Chicago's rich artistic landscape, Bellomo works aims to focus on innovation and inclusivity. Her artistic journey has been marked by the collaborative creation of the Queer Mural Series, a bold and colorful tribute to the LGBTQ+ community’s resilience and creativity. Murals like “The Love I Vibrate” and “Rebirth” serve as larger-than-life portraits of LGBTQ+ artists and activists, whose work is a catalyst for social change. Through these murals, she celebrates the intersection of art and activism, capturing the essence of a community that vibrates with strength and solidarity.
Bellomo's current work continues to challenge and inspire, with a focus on queer parenthood. Her upcoming exhibit will feature a series of textile portraits that delve into the complexities of queer family life. Alongside this, she is developing the Pride Family Coloring Book, a heartfelt project that shines a light on queer parents, caregivers and their children offering them visibility and celebration through art.
Her impact extends beyond the canvas and into the heart of Chicago’s public art scene. Featured on the cover of Art in Chicago Neighborhoods: Year of Public Art, her collaborative mural “The Love I Vibrate” symbolizes her deep connection to the city’s cultural pulse. Recognized as one of Chicago’s top 50 public artists, Bellomo’s murals can be found not only in Chicago but also across the Midwest and East Coast, each one a testament to her commitment to art as a vehicle for change.
